WWII era shooter using a modified Quake III engine. A fantastic game.
This game should have the same compatability as Quake III itself. Look at that record for additional help.
Old test results
The test results you have selected are very old and may not represent the current state of Wine.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)
What works
Install, Run, Singleplayer, Sound, etc..
What does not
Can't turn mouse more than 180 degrees (seta in_mouse -1 in cfg fixing that) .
What was not tested
All missions (but it should work), multiplayer.
How to rectify mouse problem (can't turn more than 180)
When in game, if you are experiencing problems with the mouse, e.g. you can't turn more than 180 degrees, then open the console by pressing the ~ or ` button (which must be enabled via the advanced settings page), and typing in "seta in_mouse -1" without the quotes .
Alternatively you could make a file, mousefix.cfg and type the following in it:
seta in_mouse -1
and copy it to: C:\Program Files\EA Games\MOHAA\Main (that's the default folder, change if needed)
and when you're in the game open the console and type in: exec mousefix.cfg, and from then on it should be fixed from game startup without having to type it in each time. (Note: this hasn't been tested yet, please email me if you get problems)
For running on Intel Graphics System
Problem:
Medal of honor crashes upon startup on Intel Graphics when running under Wine 1.3.
Cause:
Due to Graphics Subsystem Drivers and the way it handles long extensions for OpenGL. The application fails to start.
Resolution:
- Open Terminal - Enter MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003 wine moh_Breakthrough.exe to run the application
Known issues:
- My testing shows that Medal of Honor is still incompatible with Wine 1.4 as well as Wine 1.5. You will need Wine 1.3 along with the MESA_EXTENSION parameter as I described above to run the application. Tested Multiplayer as well under Wine 1.3 - Working no problems.

MOHAA perfection
by Adam Bolte on Tuesday May 7th 2013, 9:44
Using the above, as well as MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003 or __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700, the game should run perfectly in the latest Wine versions.
Since the above two requirements are there to work around a bug in the application (and not Wine), and the mouse work-arounds mentioned above no longer seam to be required, MOHAA could probably be rated platinum in v1.5.29 - but not adding a report until I've completed the game.
Status update
by Adam Bolte on Sunday May 5th 2013, 7:25
As per bug #31730 ( bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31730 ), the latest version of Wine that supports this game is version 1.5.7 due to a regression. You will also still need to export either MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003 (Mesa) or __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 (Nvidia) due to bugs in the game (again, #31730 has further details). No idea about a work-around for fglrx, or if any is required.
Installation
by Juan Pablo Bouza on Wednesday November 23rd 2011, 15:57
Oh, I forgot to say, installation is only working inside the wine prefix, I installed it in the default directory. Maybe it is working only inside ext4 hard drives? It doesn't work in ntfs hard drives.
Mouse lag issue
by Juan Pablo Bouza on Friday November 20th 2009, 6:47
I´m experiencing a kind of mouse lag issue with MOHAA, Jedi Academy and NOLF 1. The games run smoothly while not moving the mouse, but when I look around with it, it seems that fps drop down.
I´m not quite sure if fps drop down, or if the problem is some kind of mouse refresh issue.
Native for Linux
by Todd Harbour on Sunday October 11th 2009, 0:25
No one seems to have bothered mentioning that there's a native client for Linux which would allow you to avoid any issues altogether (if you are using Linux that is).
distro: Opensuse 11 with KDE
Wine version: Wine 1.1.15
problem: MOH allied assault installs fine, does not start
I have purchased the original EA cd roms of MOH allied assault.
Installation went fine over the wine explorer, and also via my kde
file browser.i also didnt had problems swapping the cd's.
I was not able to start the game at all, not in safe mode, not in normal, and over the commandline it even said that it couldnt find the
config files. If i start via the desktop icon, it starts, changes screen rsolution in 640x480 or 800x600 and stops. cd keeps spinning, but doesnt load anything anymore. The only way to get my 1680x1050 resolution back is via KrandXtray (screen resizer).
After setting the icon to start in a terminal it finally gives me an error message:
i tried to start the game in a virtual window, with -opengl and -d3d and nothing works.even after so much issues that i read here about
this game, how can it be rated gold or platinum, and how can i get the game to work?
X11 Issues
by Adam Eberlin on Friday February 13th 2009, 0:32
So here are some error messages I get when trying to run this in 1.1.14:
err:d3d:WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext Can't find a suitable iPixelFormat
err:d3d:InitAdapters Failed to get a gl context for default adapter
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found
800x600x16 @0! (XRandR)
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found
800x600x16 @0! (XRandR)
If I try to open it using virtual desktop (set to 800x600), I receive these messages instead:
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to
16
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to
16
Either way, the end result is that the game refuses to load past the console, displaying this error message:
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem
I filed a bug report, but it was marked as invalid because it's apparently a problem with my X11 config, which is located at bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17281
Can anyone offer some assistance? If it helps, I cannot get it working using the "native installer" either.
RE: crash on loading map
by Matt Lewellyn on Thursday October 9th 2008, 12:22
I figured out the no-cd patch caused the crash. I had forgotten to create a d: symbolic link in dosdevices; once I had that link there, the cd detection worked properly.
How to play Mohaa
by Vasilakis Filippos on Thursday August 21st 2008, 20:18
In order to play MOHAA on wine(1.12) you only have to enter bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8249 on registry.
You can do that by typing on terminal regedit UKUS PATCH STARTER for mohaa.reg and wine will enter the values on registry automatially.
Guide to MOHAA with Disabled Extensions
by Aaron Sawyer on Friday May 9th 2008, 22:24
Here is a quick and dirty guide to making MOHAA work with newer graphics cards.
1. First download the source of wine. For me, Wine 0.927 works best with MOHAA.
2. Extract the source code to a folder of your choosing. You can use the command line:
tar -xf wine-0.9.27.tar.bz2
This will extract the contents of the archive "wine-0.9.27.tar.bz2" to a new directory in the current directory named "wine-0.9.27"
You can also use a graphical interface such as Ubuntu's "Archive Manager" to extract the contents of the wine source code file.
2. Create a new text file named "wgl.c.diff" with the following contents:
You can copy and paste this into a text app like Gedit. Name it "wgl.c.diff" and place this new file into the "/dlls/opengl32" directory of the wine source code directory, in my case, "wine-0.9.27/dlls/opengl32"
To apply the patch, you will use the patch command. Open a command terminal and cd to the "wine-0.9.27/dlls/opengl32" directory. Run the following command:
patch wgl.c wgl.c.diff
4. Compile Wine. To do this, cd out from the "wine-0.9.27/dlls/opengl32" directory back to the "wine-0.9.27" directory. Enter the following commands:
You will need to apply this registry edit. From a terminal, run
regedit mohaa_disabled extenstions.reg
To do this from the GUI, right-click the file mohaa_disabled extenstions.reg, select open with other application, select custom command, and enter regedit.
You should be good to go! From a terminal, run "wine mohaa" from your mohaa directory. Keep in mind that this Registry key may interfere with other apps, such as Hunting Unlimited 3. To undo the registry key, you can use the registry editor "regedit" at the command line, goto the location of the "DisabledExtensions" key, and delete it, or you could create a new registry text file that disables the key with a blank. Like so:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\OpenGL]
"DisabledExtensions"=""
"DisableExtensions"=""
You could name this file "Default.reg" and use regedit to run it and set opengl extensions back to default when you desire.
Final notes:
If you are getting errors when you attempt to compile wine, you may need to download the appropriate packages to enable compiling on your system.
There is a known MOHAA mouse bug. In game, open the console via the tilde ` key and enter
seta in_mouse -1
This will enable the mouse to function. You could also, as Kkimo says, add the line 'seta in_mouse "-1"' to the end of the file "mohaa/main/configs/unnamedsoldier.cfg"
Hope this helps. If you ever want to uninstall this version of wine, just open a terminal, go into the wine source code folder, and enter
MOHAA_NVIDIA_bug?
by Aaron Sawyer on Thursday September 20th 2007, 13:06
Evidently, either Wine or NVIDIA has a bug preventing this game from running in newer NVIDIA boards (eg. BFG 6600gt). Using Wine 0.9.45, I just replaced my 9700pro with a 6600gt and got this error:
The game only gets as far as displaying an empty grey screen with the cursor visible, and the game exits. This is directly related to my NVIDIA video card/drivers, because my ATI card never had any problems. I hope this gets resolved soon as I would hate to have to 'downgrade' back to a 9700pro.
Not working at all
by Andrew Eleneski on Sunday August 26th 2007, 8:03
Before I was experiencing the problems with the mouse as stated in the other thread where you can only move 180 degrees. Now though, the game loads up to the main menu, then when I select New Game, and the first level it just crashes. Again, this did not happen a few versions ago such as the ones in June, maybe early July. Also, when installing the game, some windows are supposed to popup to ask you for the serial and such, but if a window for the install is already open and above where the popup would be, you are unable to access the popup window. So, you have to move the current window away from the center of the screen in case a popup occurs.
