What works
The functions are assumed to work, which already worked in WINE 0.9.55 , since the preceding article by me was intended to report a regression. This is my main reason for not retesting Bryce 5.5 thoroughly.
Rendering still frames works, as does opening the individual labs to edit Materials etc..
Codecs installed by "winetricks" are recognized under Render Animation Settings.
I had earlier reported the problem, that due to the atypical GUI with borderless controls, the GUI itself vanished after less than a second of the application starting. This problem could be corrected by not running Bryce 5.5 within a virtual desktop in this version of WINE. Thus, the virtual desktop from WINE v0.9.57 had taken part in the problem, and had also swallowed the minimized application icon.
Also, the single file named msvcp60.dll needed to be copied from a real Windows XP computer and placed into C:\Windows\System32 . Because there was no built-in fake for this DLL, no specific winecfg setting was needed to get Bryce to use it. And the DLL itself did not make any further calls to ones which would accompany it as part of specific Windows software.
Bryce 5.5c currently runs for me without any special Library settings. But because some of this varies with Wine versions, you may find that the virtual desktop and DLL override settings need to be rereversed or at least played with for your version of WINE. I've seen some testers write, that theirsonly runs in the virtual desktop.
What does not
Trying to open the integrated DAZ studio requirs that hardware 3D, through OpenGL, be installed on the Linux platform in question. Running the OpenGL rendering for most apps does not default to software rendering in the versions of Wine I'm familiar with.
Also, the GUI problem of not being able to move the 'time slider' AKA "scrubber" does not work yet.
Setting up a rendering of an animation instead of a still, causes trouble, because of GUI errors as far as I know.
What was not tested
Some of the many functions which already worked in producing a simulated scene with earlier Wine versions.
