HOWTO

This is exactly what I do to get the game running, starting from a fresh ~/.wine.

Firstly - Wine version 0.9.46, with these hacks applied:

Probably the only one related is the Securom one, but I have included the others just in case. The struck out patches don't seem to be needed, but if something doesn't work feel free to try it.

  • Set Windows version to XP
  • Set audio driver to ALSA. This may cause an exception after the EA video has played on startup. If that is the case you will have to disable ALSA, though this will cause you to have no sound (doesn't work with OSS).
  • Set these registry keys (string values):
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\OffscreenRenderingMode = fbo
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\UseGLSL = enabled
Ensure also that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\MountedDevices has been created by the Securom hack.
  • Run wine vcredist_x86.exe, which you can download here.
  • Put d3dx9_35.dll and xinput1_3.dll in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/.
  • cd to the installation directory.
  • Run wine Crysis.exe

There is one issue though - every time you start the game, ~/My Games/Crysis_MP_DEMO/ is created, and game will sometimes crash when starting if this exists. So delete ~/My\ Games/ before you attempt to start the game every time if it crashes. Sometimes it still crashes, but just keep deleting the directory and trying again (has taken up to 10 tries for me).

joining servers

Joining servers hasn't worked for me yet, but it took forever for me to join a server when using windows too. Not sure it's a Wine bug yet. Chat works anyway!
