by Jc on Wednesday October 24th 2012, 22:14
Hello, im running gentoo linux, with Radeon HD6970 Catalyst 12.6 and 3.6 x64 Kernel, i own this game on original disc and steam. i tried installing the steam version but the game crashes, so i uninstalled that and tried direct from the cd, the game still crashes when i try to load it up, the mpdefault cant be loaded error. i opened the jk2mp.exe file in ghex and changed GL_EXTENSIONS: %s to %p. now nothing happens when i try to lauch the game. i have tried this using PlayOnLinux, wine-1.5.14, and CrossOverLinux, all produce the same error. How can i fix this?

for AMD radeon graphic card users
by Le Gluon du Net on Sunday August 19th 2012, 9:54
I encounter 2 big problems and 3 less important with this game, surely most related to AMD Catalyst graphic card drivers:

1°) I tested on 2 computers with a AMD Radeon graphic card with catalyst drivers (12.x) , the game crash at launch or you have a message the game could not find default.cfg file. Solution: open the exe with a hex editor and replace "GL_EXTENSIONS: %s" by "GL_EXTENSIONS: %p". This workaround does not work for Nvidia userand the Steam version (error code 51). This crash doesn't produce if you use the xorg open source radeon driver.

2°) other bug possibly related to Catalyst driver: launch JediOutcast.exe, the global launch menu. When you clicked on launch, nothing happened, the window freezes. Workaround: launch directly the single game: jk2sp.exe or multiplayer exe: jk2mp.exe. This bug doesn't produce if you use the xorg open source radeon driver.

3°) When you launch the game, the rest of the screen (not the game screen) becomes very bright, white. When you change the luminosity option in game, it changes the whole desktop luminosity too. Everything return to the normal state at the game close, but sometimes it persists...Solution: open the jk2config.cfg and jk2mpconfig.cfg config file located in the "Jedi Outcast/Gamedata/base" folder and set seta the option
r_ignorehwgamma to "1"

4°) Sometimes the music plays too fast. Solution: use the EAX Advanced HD audio instead of the low quality audio option.

5°) in multiplayer game, if you have this error message: CL_ParsePacketEntity
LucasArts has detected you are using a nocd patch and disconnect you.
Solution: Use the original CD or the steam version.

Don't forget to update your version to 1.04 to correct some bugs with the multiplayer game. You could download the update here:

And now may the force be with you ^^
