The test results for this version are very old, and as such they may not represent the current state of Wine. Please consider submitting a new test report.
Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)

What works

  • Installation
  • Menu
  • Sound
  • All intro & loading screens
  • Movement

What does not

  • The graphics are completely mangled, not at all playable.
  • I wasn't able to keep the mouse from going off-screen and back into Linux land, so I couldn't turn a full circle, etc.

What was not tested
In-depth gameplay

Additional Comments

I installed following the HOWTO directions exactly, and that got me this far.

The game is somewhere between Garbage and Bronze... it is totally unplayable because of the graphics, but I have a sneaking feeling someone clever could make it work. The game didn't crash on me or anything like that.

HOWTO

To get the game to start, make sure the following registry key is set:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\UseGLSL = enabled

In winecfg, set the Windows version to “Windows XP”, and in the audio tab, “Hardware Acceleration” to “Emulation” and check “Driver Emulation”.

You will need to put d3dx9_34.dll and xinput1_3.dll in ${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/windows/system32/.

by OSuKaRu on Tuesday July 15th 2008, 7:53
it installs fine, but, when i try to play only see the mouse cursor over a black background and i hear ambient sounds (or something else)

The Machine is:

I tried the "Howto" without success

Thanks

quick how-to
by Mirek Slugeň on Thursday March 20th 2008, 2:49
You need at least NVidia 8xxx or 9xxx GPU to run this game at reasonable speed, older GPU has realy serious problems in this game (6xxx and 7xxx).

Overbright workaround
by Milan Troller on Saturday January 12th 2008, 3:17
Found way how to fix ingame overbrigh. Just disable the "glow" parameter of the game.
Pop out ingame console (`)
con_restricted 0
r_glow 0
Textures are still very bright and game doesn't look so good, but the terrible blinding gloom is there no more.

Mouse issues
by JaMa on Thursday December 6th 2007, 16:49
Patch to force mouse warping from this bug
bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6971
can be used to solve mouse look issues.

With this change, view can be rotated without limits.

But mouse is not working in menus, so use keyboard for navigating in menus.

Its pitty I have found this now, after finishing this game today at 4am :).

some advice
by Stefano on Saturday December 1st 2007, 6:50
I noticed that the game can be played with high, medium and low settings but the shaders MUST be set to HIGH otherwise there are giant graphic glitches. And it's important, the rotation of the visual must be fixed because now i can rotate with the mouse around 45 degrees to maximum 180 degrees by changing mouse options so the game cannot be played.
However the graphic quality of the game is near playing with XP.

Very slow, and black
by 1g0R[HUN] on Wednesday November 21st 2007, 15:41
Ahoy,

I installed Crysis SP demo. Copy the two dll-s to system32 dir.Crysis start correctly, menu is fast.I set everything to low, and 800x600.
When the game start, the subtitles appear very slow, and the game is very slow too, and everthing is black.Just some "thing" what i see from the game.I tried -DX9 command line, but not helped.
I use wine 0.9.49, on nvidia 7900GS, with 169.04 driver.
Why its too slow ?

Mouse issues
by kde on Thursday November 15th 2007, 10:20
Has anyone had issues with mouse-look in the demo? It seems that the game is using an invisible mouse cursor which is not locked to the screen center. Once the cursor reaches the screen edge you cannot look any further into this direction. It thus becomes impossible to fully turn the character around itself. Depending on mouse sensitivity and screen resolution, I am always getting less than 180 degrees to the left or right.

Crysis installer doesn't work right and Crysis is SLOOOWWW
by CME on Sunday November 4th 2007, 16:18
hi, I'm using ubuntu 7.10 64bit, wine 0.9.48 (GLSL, fbo), nvidia geforce 7800GTX and the latest nvidia beta driver. I downloaded the crysis demo from gamershell.com. when i try to install crysis, it copys the data and then it says "Please insert the disk: 1", i simply killed the program, and it installed 2GB... well, i startet crysis and intro and menu worked fine but when the game starts, its SLOW as hell. i set all to low and 1024x768, i get sth. around 0.25fpm (frames per minute), it needs 5+ min to display "August 7th, 2020"

here the wine log from starting the game until i killed it: www.pastebin.org/7066

anybody an idea whats wrong?

Ok I followed the instructions and when I strt Crysis I get the following message:

"Cyinput.dll could not b loaded. This is likely due to not having xinput installed.
Please install the most recent version of the Directx runtime."

I am using 0.9.48

Crashing Issues
by blake on Friday November 2nd 2007, 18:10
I get these errors repeated over and over once the actual game starts (after the "click any key to continue" message) and the screen goes blank:

fixme:d3d9:D3D9CB_CreateSurface (0x13bf98) IDirect3DDevice9_CreateSurface failed
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateTexture Failed to create surface 0x29ae9698
fixme:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9Impl_CreateTexture (0x13bf98) call to IWineD3DDevice_CreateTexture failed

I'm using the UseGLSL = enabled, and I copied the two .dll files, so is there anything else I'm missing?
