my laptop freezes when the game is running
by arkos971 on Thursday May 29th 2008, 21:11
I had many problems with the previous versions of wine (couldnt pass through the Loading page). Now I can, with an emulated desktop, pass through the login page, see my mouse and enter the game... But I can't see my character, only his swords (i'm a swordsman), neither on the page where we choose our character, nor into the game... then my computer freezes after a few seconds with the game running...

for those that keep crashing
by james on Monday April 7th 2008, 12:56
try moving everything in the music directory to some other directory, or deletiing the files...

doing this you will have no sound but - most of the time it fixes the game crash error

this is due to a sound mismatch error that is a glitch in the game not just linux based systems

Always when I run ToP it will freeze when I press "Enter Game"-button. It just shows "Loading..." picture. When I press X it will just tell that it's doing simulated shutdown or logout progress...

Getting stuck on splash screen
by Claudio on Monday December 31st 2007, 14:41
I am constantly bothered by this problem. Which seems to be caused by the loader top.exe and topd.exe
If you just want to start the game without checking to see if you have the latest version use the following command line.
$ wine system/game.exe startgame top.exe

Results of running this game varies from system to system.
I have an emu10k1 SB Live Value and I cannot start the game with sound. (Be it OSS or Alsa sound) If sound is simply turned off the game runs like a charm.
On a system which has similar hardware and distro, the only difference is that it uses OSS in wine (Alsa doesn't work yet) on an M-Audio Sound Card.
