there isn't much differences between versions, not that i know of.

What works
Gameplay, sound, fullscreen mode (with metacity window manager), windowed mode, multiple player profiles
What does not
The diary text isn't displayed correctly. The text is cut off, so if you want to read the entries, better do it while the "congratulations, you found another diary entry or something like that" animation is on and the diary text is scrolling.
Fullscreen mode with compiz window manager--though it works (game goes to fullscreen, playable), the ubuntu panels go on top of the wine display. To correct this, I tried two things:
1. Change window manager from compiz to metacity (I used the Compiz Fusion Icon, which you can install via Synaptic.)
2. Configure Wine-->Graphics-->Uncheck "Allow window manager to decorate the windows" and Uncheck "Allow window manager to control the windows"
P.S. I have no idea why fullscreen mode doesn't work with Compiz.

This game seems to work for me.

I installed the game from a retail disk. I'm using Gutsy Ubuntu and Wine 0.9.46. The only problem that I've run into so far is that the text is too large.
There may be a fix for this, but I've only been using Ubuntu for a few weeks and I don't know much about it yet.
I just thought that there might be others who might like to know that this probably doesn't deserve the "Garbage" rating
