game suddenly crashes after "Loading mission"
At some point I was able to run this game by using software rendering. Some major luck was needed to get a working RWL20.DLL.
I even have a file called RWL20.DLL.patched so I guess I digged deep for this issue; I remember I went also in debugging with OllyDbg (I was a step far from actually disassembling the whole game...) and ended up making various attempts with Renderware2 and Smackw32 that are used in this game.
