  • If you're experiencing sound problems, place devenum.dll and quartz.dll in Wine's windows/system32 directory (usually ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32), and use winecfg to add a DLL override so wwp.exe uses native 'quartz' and 'devenum'.
  • If you update to 1.1, place msvcp60.dll in Wine's windows/system32 directory
  • If you are not running Wine in a desktop emulating window (winecfg Graphics tab), the game freezes if you right-click to bring up the weapon menu. However, it is possible to select weapons with the F1-F12 keys

The how to says

"Place the ddraw.dll from the correct archive below in the directory where you installed Worms World Party.
Wine 0.9.47
Wine 0.9.46
Wine 0.9.45
Wine 0.9.44
Wine 0.9.43
If you cant find your Wine version on the list above, try finding a file 'wa_ddraw_{yourwineversion}.tar.bz2' here ("

But there is only a limited number of wine versions.

Where can I get the ddraw.dll for wine 1.5.22?

Since (K)Ububtu updated their wine version to 1.2 today, here's the updated patch ( ).
All what I said in my previous post remains still valid for this one except that this patch applies to wine 1.2.

Worms World Party fix for wine 1.1.42
by doedeluser on Sunday October 24th 2010, 15:09
This patch ( ) fixes the black screen problem for Worms World Party under wine
It also forces the DirectDrawRenderer to use GDI, thus no registry setting
It's just a collection of fixes published by other guys from the Worms
Armageddon tread. So, thanks go to these guys.
I rebased these patches to wine 1.1.42 to perfectly fit for (K)Ubuntu 10.04

For the people hwo don't know how to compile the necessary dll's, here's a brief instructions for Ubuntu 10.04:

1. download wine 1.1.42 source by running the following command
apt-get source wine1.2

2. copy 'wwp_wine1.1.42.patch' into wine 1.1.42 source folder

3. cd into wine 1.1.42 source folder and run following commands:
patch -p0 < wwp_wine1.1.42.patch
make dlls/ddraw dlls/wined3d
strip dlls/ddraw/
strip dlls/wined3d/

4.copy 'dlls/ddraw/' into WWP folder and rename it to 'ddraw.dll'
copy 'dlls/wined3d/' into WWP folder and rename it to 'wined3d.dll'

How to get it work
by Andre Wisplinghoff on Monday December 22nd 2008, 10:20
I use Wine 0.9.44.
Either patch wine 0.9.44 with that patch or put included ddraw.dll in your wwp folder.

Now you'll still have the bug that message boxes that pop up after single player games steal focus so that you can't continue playing. Change a function like i described in this bug and it should work:

Is it possible to make Worms World Party run in wine 1.0 rc4 since there is no ddraw dll for it?

wormnet problems
by looki on Saturday May 3rd 2008, 7:00
i got it running with 0.9.44 and the worms armageddon patch for this version. the only problem is that i cant connect to wormnet. the game pops a message box that says me an error.

so a watch with wireshark can help, if u r interested in, i give u a capture that i made in windows, when it worked.

if u try the same with wwp in wine, u will see the different.

Cannot connect to WormNet
by juan tapulan on Thursday May 1st 2008, 21:46
I am running wine version 0.9.60. I have compiled my own ddraw with the WA patch to get this game working. Everything seems to be good by following the how-to in this page except for:

(1) the occasional unclickable game buttons for mouse after game rounds. it happens at random and a documented bug here already (so i've accepted and live with this bug)

(2) cannot connect to WormNet but LAN play works well.

i'm more concern with the second problem i have. i'm not even sure if this is really supposed to work. can anybody confirm pls if it does so and pls provide a guide to get it to work. wormnet is so much fun.. TIA

btw, i have tried it by turning off my firewall but still no luck.

and to those interested in this game here is the ddraw i compiled from wine 0.9.60 sources with the WA patch

Dll fix for wine 0.9.55
by Alex Fiestas on Sunday February 17th 2008, 18:40

I did not find the patched ddraw dll in the FTP server since 0.9.55, so I compiled myself a new one which works with the latest version. You can download it form

If there is someone else I should inform (the author of the patch?) please let me know.

So far...
by Sam on Tuesday January 8th 2008, 14:33
using Fedora 8 and Wine 0.9.52
Installed with no problems.
Got the ddraw thingy into the game folder and the dlls into system 32 folder.
Tried to start from cd ($ wine AUTORUN.EXE) no success, from folder ($ wine wwp.exe) no success, then with ($ wine explorer /desktop=name,1024x768 "C:\Team17\Worms World Party\wwp.exe") command with no luck.
So I installed EU patch from , got the dlls and ddraw files into the folders again and tried all i tried before with no luck...
Finally i decided to try ($ wine explorer /desktop=name,1024x768 "AUTORUN.EXE") on the CD directory.. and it was a success. I can even use right mouse click weapons menu.
So far i played some multiplayer games(always using right click weapons menu) and edited maps. I will keep on testing and post with any updates.
(I hope it wasn't just beginners luck =P)

RE: Can't click after finishing single player mission
by Rafal on Tuesday January 8th 2008, 7:31
Sorry. I think that my problem is same but it isn't. When I finish ANY match mouse don't rensponse - that is my problem not you. You have 'no mouse response at END OF MISION'.

However I began to use older version(0.9.37-0.9.48) and I investigate that is not a problem(you problem :)) with ending mission but in messagebox displayed at end. You click, message disapear and mouse control is dead.

In 0.9.49-0.9.52 messageboxes works fine but at end of EVERY match mouse completly lose control. When clicked only system beep can be heart.

Patched DLL won't load
by Mike on Thursday January 3rd 2008, 3:46
I've been trying to follow the HowTo for this entry for several days now and keep hitting the same problem.

I'm able to run the installation successfully. I grab the appropriate wa_ddraw for my wine version and stick it into my wine installation (I've tried both the system32 directory and the WWP install directory).

If I follow the directions exactly and don't do anything else I just get the black screen the patch is supposed to work around (pretty sure it's not trying to use the new DLL). If I go into winecfg and add a dll override for ddraw (which the HowTo doesn't explicitly call out) and try running it I get the following error:

$> cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Team17/Worms World Party
$> wine wwp.exe

err:module:import_dll Loading library DDRAW.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Team17\\Worms World Party\\wwp.exe") failed (error c000007b).
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Team17\\Worms World Party\\wwp.exe" failed, status c0000135

I've tried fiddling with the exact override type ("native, builtin" vs plain "native", etc.) - doesn't seem to make a difference.

I was originally on wine version 0.9.46 and using the corresponding patched ddraw version. After fighting this issue for a couple days I completely uninstalled wine, wiped out all my settings, etc. and tried reverting to version 0.9.38 (which I'm still on now). That's the version with the "gold" ratings above so I thought it might pre-date whatever this issue is. I've been trying it all night with the 0.9.38 patched ddraw version but I'm still encountering the same issue.

I could really use an assist on this. We played this game non-stop in college and now that the wife and I both have laptops it would be the height of awesomeness to have mini Worms lan parties from the comfort of the couch.

my experience
by nikita on Saturday October 27th 2007, 0:56
I tested the unpatched worms world party in open suse 10.3 with kde 3.5 and wine 9.44 (as delivered from opensuse site in oct 2007). I think the problem with this game is not in the way wine(from 9.44 up) emulates the environment but rather in the way that windows and tasks are switched. After every freeze(mostly because the lack of the mouse - in weapon menu for example) after a few Print screen keys and Alt-Tabs i managed to get the focus back in the window('cause even if the screen was filled with the game, the mouse was elsewhere) and get everything working. and this keeps repeating. Upgrade to wine 9.47 does not change anything. Also did not checked the network playing yet. Also after i installed the patch things did not start anymore. i'll test this again. But that windows focusing thing is messing up the game.

Can't get it to install
by Richard Copeman on Saturday September 22nd 2007, 11:24
Wine 0.9.44 on openSUSE 10.2. Pentium E64T, 1G RAM, 500GB HDD (95% free).

Insert the CD and wine /media/Wwp/AUTORUN.EXE and theinstall program comes up. It gets 6% through copying the files across and then gives me a component transfer failure.

I copied all the files form teh CD to a local folder on my HDD and tried again specifying the copy (This has worked for previous games) but got the same results.

I looked at the group and have added msvcp60.dll, quartz.dll, devenum.dll and the correct ddraw.dll (for my version of wine) to my \windows\system32 folder (/opt/dos/C/windows/system32) but still no joy.

Does anybody have any other suggestions for me to try?

All works fine with 0.9.37 and Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 32bit
by Mitsuhashi on Monday May 28th 2007, 7:23
I've tried with my Ubuntu (and Kubuntu) Feisty 7.04 x86_32, Wine version 0.9.37 with the modified ddraw.ddl and ALL WORKS FINE. Only the weapon menu (with right click) don't work (actually freeze the game) but you can choose your weapons with F1-F12 keys.

ATTENTION! If you don't use the modified ddraw.dll you'll get a black screen and only the sound of the game.
