Ancestry Family Tree is free($), lightweight genealogy software featuring a very clean interface, great feature-set, better GEDCOM standard adherence than Family Tree Maker, and real-time web-integration with Ancestry.com record collections.
Public distribution was discontinued around 2005 when Ancestry.com acquired the non-free($) Family Tree Maker software line. The "Member Tree" functionality of the current Ancestry.com (the MyAncestry section) seems to have essentially the same data structure as AFT only with a far more cumbersome web interface and greatly-reduced functionality (e.g. simple exportation to GEDCOM is "coming soon" to Ancestry.com).
The AFT software is still fully functional, tying into the very same collections as MyAncestry as they are made available. It does NOT bypass any subscription requirements. Think of it as an alternative, superior interface for Ancestry.com doubling as a stand-alone (off-line) genealogy program.
Try file sharing or Google around for a copy of the installer: 'ancestry.exe' (~4 MB)
There are a couple of Linux alternatives:
