Released 1999, Slave Zero is a 3D action RPG/shooter with some platform game elements. The Slaves are effectively an elite military force, about 500 years into the future. They are giant bio-mechanical cyborgs developed by the SOVKahn (an Orwell-style abbreviation of Sovereign Khan), a tyrranical dictator of sorts, intent on wiping out any opposition.
The opposition is a religious movement - the Guardians - who's most holy temple is at the center of the largest city in the SOVKahn's empire. They have been bannished from the city and forced to live in toxic wastelands. However, they manage to steal a prototype Slave unit, Slave Zero, and they place a young man named Chan inside it to control it. That's you.
Your mission is to battle giant and devestating robots, and to destroy the SOVKahn if you can to reclaim your people's temple. You start out with basic weapons - a machinegun of sorts and a rocket launcher. Both have limitted ammo. You can destroy quite a few of the smaller buildings and sometimes pick up debris (in the shape of long, rotating poles), as well as cars. You also have the option to stomp on the ground which, although it does damage nearby enemy units, it is also very effective for killing people who run around on the ground below you, and causing cracks in the roads. Through the course of the game, you can pick up weapon upgrades which get more and more impressive as they go along. You even have the option of downgrading your weapons if you find a less powerful one lying about.
All in all, a good game, except when you throw things, there's no gravity. Straight line all the way.
