Shorter Oxford English Dictionary

The New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary is the third edition of the SOED. The two volume print edition was published in 1993 and the CD-ROM version by Oxford University Press and AND Electronic Publishing B.V. was produced in 1996.

The publishers claim "half a million definitions, 83,000 quotations". It is possible to search on headwords, abbreviations, definition text, quotations, etymology, and phoenetics. There is also an anagram solver and rhyming index.
