Sonic Robo Blast 2 (SRB2 for short) is a free, open-source 3D remake of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games for the SEGA consoles from the 1990s, built on the Doom Legacy port of the Doom PC Engine. The game was originally developed in 1998 and, at the time of this writing, isn't completely finished yet, although most of the playable levels are included. It is free to modify as well, through files using the extensions .wad and .soc (respectively known to the SRB2 community as WADs and SOCs). Using these, a player can completely change the size and scope of the game.
The normal version of SRB2 (without modifications) includes eighteen action-packed single-player levels, including five bosses, and seven multiplayer modes: co-op, competition, race, deathmatch, tag, hide-and-seek, and CTF (capture the flag).
As of version 2.1, SRB2 includes two completely reworked single-player levels, more deathmatch, tag, and CTF levels, and a myriad of new features, including support for scripting with the Lua language, MD2 character files, and the ability to create GIFs or APNGs of your gameplay.
