NoteTab (any version) creates and edits files that contain plain text.
The graphic interface is tabbed, so you can have more open files than you can keep track of.
It finds and inserts or replaces newlines (^p) and tabs (^t).
Extensible Clip Books of html and other templates.
Open (and edit, at your own risk of course) binary files.
There's a button on the help menu to replace MS Notetab as the default text editor on MS operating systems.
NoteTab is the only software I use with Windows that I care about
having for Linux.
I've used it so long, for so many tasks, I don't even think about its features anymore.
NOTE: NoteTab is listed on its web site as being supported on Linux.
