Allegiance is based on an original concept by Gene Ball & Rick Rashid. Members of Microsoft’s Allegiance / Zone team have gone on to work on games such as Halo, Dead Space, inFamous, Sid Meier’s Civilization, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Crimson Skies, & Grand Theft Auto.
- Allegiance was originally developed by Microsoft and released March 2000. The game received great reviews, but was too far ahead of its time (before high speed internet). Still the unique, highly strategic game-play allowed Allegiance to maintain a loyal following. In 2004, Microsoft released the source code to Allegiance. In 2017 the game's license was changed to MIT.
- If you would like to contribute to developing Allegiance, all the source code for the game, and website are hosted on GitHub at https://github.com/FreeAllegiance and https://github.com/AllegianceZone
- Staff are online via IRC at http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=FreeAllegiance
