ViewNX

This is the software included with Nikon cameras to work with and manipulate JPEG and NEF images. NEF images are Nikon's own camera RAW format used in their D-SLR lineup. ViewNX is not to be confused with Capture NX, which is the standalone software that must be purchased separately from the camera. ViewNX is an important application to enable meaningful manipulation of NEF images. Without it, or it's commercial counter-part Capture NX, the support for the NEF is more limited. The UFraw plug in with The Gimp, or Camera Raw plug in with Photoshop both support the format, but unlike Nikon's software, cannot save the images back as NEF.
