openBVE is a railway simulator compatible with routes and trains, developed for an existing simulator, BVE 2/4 by "Mackoy", but is a different programme, written by michelle.
Instead of DirectX, openBVE uses OpenGl and OpenAl from the Tao Framework
openBVE, is license-free, open source, free of charge.
Version, 1.2.0.3 runs most BVE 2 and 4 routes, trains, objects, and sounds in wine-1.1.27 with minimal problems. It requires either the .NET Framework v2, to be installed (or Mono for Windows 2.4). The developer, intends that use in Linux, be via mono alone.
To install .net v2, change wine version to 2000, and copy l_intl.nls, into the wine system 32 folder, then install .net v2, well that's the way I do it.
I recommend that you use wine with mono for windoz it's a lot faster.
I have had some problems with gdiplus.dll, it comes and goes, if there is a problem try puting a copy of said file into the openBve folder, and adding it to the overrides list, and setting it to native.
