InDesign 2.0 (codenamed Annapurna): January 2002 (just days before QuarkXPress 5)
Delivers the page layout tools you've always wanted. It integrates tightly with Adobe Photoshop™, Adobe Illustrator™, and Adobe Acrobat™. Plus, it frees you to be more creative by delivering intuitive features that reduce elaborate design tasks to a few quick steps. When you're ready to print, the results are precise and reliable. InDesign 2.0 also makes it easy to move beyond print with built-in support for publishing pages anywhere - to Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), as eBooks, on the Web, and more. Finally, as you would expect, InDesign 2.0 runs natively on Mac OS X and is compatible with Windows XP.
Installs. Runs. Saves and resaves. Exports to PDF.
What does not
Trivialities, see comments.
What was not tested
Lots and lots...
Installs with zero problems. Fast too. Starts fast enough. Made a sample . Exported to pdf perfectly, as far as I can tell. When clicking various icons on Tools window they grey out, and stay that way. Not possible to see what mode you're in from that. Fonts act a little weird. When first starting, there are no fonts listed in character window, but if it is closed and then reopened, all system fonts become available.
