What works

- Opening the program

- Creating, opening and saving projects

- Importing images, importing WAV files

- Adding and playing audio via project audio tracks

- Adding image into a video track

- Timeline sequence: Stretching image clips in video tracks, cutting audio files placed into audio tracks

- Adding effects (tested only some of them)

- Program sequence: Premiere is able to render the project video in program upper-right sequence window

- Minimizing the main window without GUI glitches (except the ones mentioned under "What does not work" title)

What does not

Installer

Installer fails to start with default Wine 1.7.36 (32-bit). However, with a patch described in the 'extra comments' field, you can install Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 without serious issues.

Graphical GUI glitches (gdiplus)

Though opening the program is possible with the latest Wine 1.7.36 release, the GUI has some serious & wierd issues related to builtin gdiplus library, preventing much of the normal usage: black menus (they are not rendered, right?), video track tools not visible etc. Overall, these glitches makes the program difficult to use on a daily basis.

If you shrink and then mazimize the main window, all stuff you may have had visible earlier, will be unrendered or failed to be rendered and seen as black areas.

I once (yes, and only once) got the program working with the native Windows gdiplus and everything looked normal. However, with the native gdiplus library the program usually crashes in the launch, so winetricks gdiplus override does not help here.

The only permanent solution for GUI rendering problems would be several improvements for the current builtin Gdiplus library. That's the only possible way to get rid of current GUI glitches.

Other features that do not work

- Video and audio tracks are unrendered/invisible due to gdiplus unimplement functions. After you put media & effect stuff into them, you see your clips in your timeline sequence. However, effects are still invisible, so you can't control where to put them in your clips.

- Importing AVI videos (fixme:amstream:IAMMultiMediaStreamImpl_AddMediaStream Specifying a stream object in params is not yet supported).

- The program complains about missing (?) Tahoma font even when original font file were taken from Windows OS and placed to drive_c/windows/fonts/ folder.

No further testing were done to the program.

Additional Comments

Installation: 1) Compile & install patched Wine 1.7.36 32-bit. See instructions below. 2) Create new 32-bit prefix, Windows XP (.wine_premierepro, for example) 3) winetricks msxml3 msxml6 vcrun6 ie6 corefonts 4) Run Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 installer 5) Open the program Wine 1.7.36 32-bit + patch for installation of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Applying the following patch makes the program installable: http://pastebin.com/hPfLyWYi The pastebin text is fitted for 1.7.36 source code. The original patch code by Toni Spets: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18070 ------------------------------------------ I'm not sure but I think there may be an issue with codecs because only handful were detected by the program when trying to import external media files (videos/audio). Premiere Pro didn't detect many of my installed codecs (winetricks ffmpeg wmp10 xvid)
