Additional Comments

I was using wintetricks d3dx9_36 and vcrun2005 glsl turned off, moursewarp was force you still need the ctd patch (link at other tests) My specs: Intel Q 6600 2.4Ghz @ 3.3 Ghz Sligthly Overclocked Nvidia GTX 460 (only what little overclock the manufacturer did since there is no Fermi OC in Linux so far) I was using High Shader Textures and Object, others were on Low, resolution was 1600x1020 with 2xAA. The game was running at 35fps average, at open places and heavy fire it went down to 20 sometimes, but the game remained fairly responsible. There were no sluttering, the whole speed was quite stable, high min fps-es. Very minimal graphical bugs (due glsl turned off) If you turn glsl on you wont see those bugs but youll get heavy slutters. I used forced mousewarpoverride cos the usual enabled one caused starnge mouse movement. This meant no mouse movement in the menu, but it can controlled with keyboard. Without the CPU overclock the fps went down drasticly, it seems my CPU is a mayor bottleneck here in wine. I was running the game without any WM, straight from X-server (modified .xinitrc) with any DE or WM on, fps went down drasticly, to about 3-4, dunno why. Overall its almost the same experience as in WIndows, only you get slower performance with mid CPU, and a few tweaks required. Level loading and game loading was faster due to ext4 being better than ntfs. My next upgrade will be a high-end AMD Bulldozer CPU, we'll see hoow will the game fare.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

Howto:
If you're using ATI hardware there may be even worse problems since their drivers suck (for now)

  • Use Wine 1.1.5 or newer with MouseWarpOverride=force. The mouse will not work properly in the menu. You will have to navigate with the keyboard after left-clicking once.
  • Put d3dx9_36.dll and XINPUT1_3.dll in windows/system32. You can get them from a DLL site like dll-files.com
  • Install the game and use a Crack on it
  • Set OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo
  • Set Shaders to High, else you will get graphical problems
  • You will get extremely bright HDR. So add r_glow = 0 to My Documents/My Games/Crysis/game.cfg. Remove write-permissions to stop Crysis from butchering the file at every restart

Issues:

  • FPS are even worse than on Windows (~15 FPS on a 8600GT low settings except shaders). Don't even try to run the game on hardware lower than a GF8 it will not work!
  • Severe graphical corruption
  • Sound may vanish under some circumstances
  • Movies don't have sounds at all
  • Crysis will freeze whenever it feels like it
  • FPS will drop to below 1 at some resolutions
  • Also FPS may suddenly drop at any point, usually accompanied by graphical corruption. Restart the game and reload the level to fix this
  • The patcher will not work in Wine
