What works

  • Installation.
  • Save/load/continue game.
  • Sounds.
  • Music.

What does not

  • Playing the game.
  • The logo movie(s).
  • The in-game movies.
  • Setting the anti-aliasing option. (Bug #34625).
  • Playing the game (after workaround) in Wine's full-screen mode causes the game window to get automatically minimized when the workspace is changed. (Bug #37937).

Workarounds

The game can be run by disabling `winegstreamer'. However, this causes white screen in the background, with delays. It is possible to `Esc(ape)' it.

Dropping `quartz.dll' in the game directory and setting it to `n(ative)' slightly improves the situation: the screen is blank/black and the logo and in-game movies are silently skipped. The game can be played normally though.

To prevent the game window from automatically minimizing, run the game in Wine's virtual-desktop mode.

The above workarounds can be used in the CLI as:

$ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="$WINEDLLOVERRIDES;winegstreamer=d;quartz=n" wine explorer /desktop=,800x600 Bond.exe

What was not tested

  • Everything else.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Although the application is affected by bug #37937, thereby causing it to get minimized when run in full-screen mode, it can be activated/restored without much problems.

The console is forever spammed with the following messages:

---
...
libpng warning: Incomplete compressed datastream in iCCP chunk
libpng warning: Profile size field missing from iCCP chunk
...
---

In an attempt to get the movies working, I had dropped `ir50_32.dll' and `quartz.dll' in `windows/system32'. However, doing so resulted in an UPF on read-access to 0x00000000.
