Palm Desktop and Hotsync Installation on Wine 1.1.12
Use winetricks to install the following
Make sure setupapi.dll is set to builtin.
Then run the file:
wine setup.exe
After installation:
Old manual instructions (wine 1.17 and earlier)
* Set Wine to Windows 98.
* First, Install IE6. Make sure dcom98 is installed.
* Install Windows Installer manually. Run instmsia.exe. The installer will complain with a nasty error, but it will leave behind all the files you need in Windows\Installer\InstMsi0. Copy all of those files to Windows\system, and set msi.dll and msiexec.exe to native using winecfg.
* Install Windows Script 5.6. You can download the English version from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a8a18f6-249c-4a72-bfcf-fc6af26dc390&DisplayLang=en
Make sure setupapi.dll is set to builtin, and run the file.
* To run Hotysnc, set windows version to "windows NT 4.0" to get rid of complaints about missing comm drivers.
Note that palm desktop doesn't run because of a crash bug in Wine. Hotsync will run with both USB and serial cradles. For USB devices, the process is a little convoluted, but it works. The process is documented here.

recommended:
* set Wine to Windows 98.
No love with XP or 2K - all the same errors already reported here - but under 98, it installed without a hitch.
*He did not try to hotsync with it yet though.

Didn't need any native DLLs at all.
You might also want to try getting rid of your Dll overrides and just use all builtins.
