NoteTab Pro is 29.95. Individuals may install on
several machines for that price and there are quantity discounts for commercial users. It's been worth every penny.
Adds a spell checker and thesaurus, also syntax highlighting for HTML and Clipcode.

Everything that matters to me, including auto update (I started over this morning, just to try it.) I cannot think of a feature I'd want from a text editor that is no well supported.
What does not
The (optional) button it put on my KDE desktop.
What was not tested
I've only had version 5.5 for a day, but I've tried just about everything over the years.
Knoppix is a Debian derivative, so I've got the Debian version of Wine: 9.12. I'd offer to help others install NoteTab, but cutting and pasting to an old version of Wine gave no insight to problems anyone might have! Beyond that, I'm a Linux newbie who hasn't (yet?) gotten his head around emacs or vi.

I have the best success with Wine if I uninstall the old version of Wine before installing the new version.
I keep a copy of the install for the version that I know works, so if the new version of Wine introduces new issues, I can easily roll back to a working configuration.
All the user settings are unaffected by uninstalling Wine. All user settings are kept under /home/username/.wine.
If you want to try a completely new install of NoteTab or any other Windows program and preserve your settings, you can rename the .wine directory in your user directory. There have been no issues that have required this for a couple of years.
No special settings have been required to get NoteTab Pro to work.
