Battlefield Vietnam

Install the game from CD, then install the 1.2 patch and the 1.21 patch. This allows the game played online as most servers require the latest patch release to be installed.

Latest patched version, patch can be downloaded from http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/vietnam/us/editorial.jsp?src=demo_editorial or some other mirror

Additional Comments

I'm using the CD version, Install the 1.2 Patch then the 1.21 Patch, then run the game. Battlefield Vietnam is probably my 2ND favorite game in the Battlefield series because of the awesome 70's soundtrack, and the ability to sabotage vehicles, and plant traps. Game runs very smooth with no lag.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

As of wine v1.2 this is no longer needed.

As at Wine v0.9.58 Battlefield Vietnam works well, but there are some changes that need to be made to get it working and you have two choices, they are both simple and it really depends on whether you want to play the game full screen or not.  I would strongly recommend that you run BFV in a window, but the choice is yours

Option 1
Start winecfg, go the Graphics tab and select "Emulate Virtual Desktop" and enter a valid resolution (I used 1024x768). Once that is set you can launch the game in a window and it seems to all work fine.

Option 2
If you need to run the game full screen you can change "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1" in "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\settings\VideoDefault.con" and that seems to work also, although when the game exist my screen resolution is stuck at the game resolution.
