HowTo / Notes

HOWTO install and play Riven with Wine 1.0 RC 4

Just do everything like in "HOWTO install and play Riven". But you won't need to use an older Wine version to install Quicktime. Quicktime will crash at setup with Wine >0.9.49, but you are able to restart the setup and just choose "Continue". Quicktime will now finish the setup.
Depending on your filesystem you may need to restart the setup a few times.

HOWTO install and play Riven
Insert your Riven DVD and mount it under /mnt(you can choose any mountpoint, but I will use /mnt here).
Open up a terminal and change to /mnt/Myst2/Quicktime. Execute "QT32INST.EXE" using wine. If the setup crashes after searching for conflicting files, try installing Quicktime with Wine 0.9.49 or older(49 worked for me), and then switch back. Riven itself will run with any recent version(0.9.54 at the moment).
Go one directory up and install Riven using "setup.exe". After that open winecfg and go to drives. Add a drive and set the path to /mnt. Click on "Show Advanced" and set type to CDROM and serial to 0. Leave label blank.

Riven should run now, but you will notice that the sound volume goes down every time a movie is played. To fix this, go to your Riven installation folder and open up "Mohawk.w32" with your editor. Search for "fEnableAudioProxy" and set it to true(originally, it was needed to set it to false, but it seems that this Riven version differs).
This little workaround is needed due a bug in Quicktime 2.xx. That bug does not occur on Windows 98/95, but on 2000 and higher.
