What works

Software installs and operates with functionality equivalent to the original OS, specifically:

  • Single-User Mode.
  • Sysop Mode (with crashing that does not prevent use - see below), COM port setup works in Sysop Mode (via adding symbolic link to the proper /dev devices).
  • Firewall Test.

What does not

  • Switching between User/Sysop Mode (Link/Repeater mode) and making related settings changes (i.e. application sometimes crashes when a Settings window is closed in Sysop Mode, crashes when switching to a Sysop Profile, etc.).
  • Program crashes upon exiting in Sysop Mode
  • Explorer View in Sysop Mode sometimes does not appear (after a settings change causing a reconnect)
  • The index and search functionality of the Help are not present/do not appear (explorer-like navigation appears and is functional.

Otherwise, Sysop Mode works FLAWLESSLY. A partial workaround is to:

  1. Create a separate profile for Sysop Mode, enabling the Profile Chooser on start (this prevents a crash when switching modes using MAIN Profile). This is the commonly recommended method for configuring Sysop Mode if you intend to switch between User-Mode.
  2. Exit EchoLink and re-open to select a new Profile
  3. after making settings changes, exit and re-open EchoLink (this prevents crashes after settings changes)

Keying up
by Ted Taylor on Tuesday December 30th 2014, 10:34
When I press the space bar to keyup there is a delay of about 15 seconds before the audio level meter comes up & I can speak. Does anyone know what the problem is please, it didn't happen before I used it with win 7 or earlier versions of Linux. I am using Linux Mint 17 qina 32 bit. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'kl give it a try on my machine when I can and submit a new report. In the mean time feel free to submit a report on your own experience.

Thanks Ian, that's the only problem I have with it. De Ted G7PZS

it worked fine with the USB headset since kubuntu switched to pulseaudio with 10.04. I can't choose the 2nd soundcard (the headset) any longer. But EchoLink work with the built-in soundcard.
Audio trouble and fix
by KB3CS - Chris on Saturday October 17th 2009, 7:07
on my SuSE 11.1 system with kernel and wine 1.1.31:

upon starting up echolink 2.0.908, I'd see the message "fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on Intel 82801DB-ICH4 Modem, disabling mixer"

as soon as echolink made any sound at all, it would emit a fraction of sound and then hang (completely unresponsive).

fix: change the audio settings with winecfg to use OSS instead of ALSA.
(the "Test Sound" button does not work for me with either audio driver)
Audio problems

Having tried this app, I was impressed except for the audio. When trying to transmit, there was really bad echo. It seems that only the first second or so a transmission is recorded, and that is sent to the remote station over and over again at constantly diminishing volume.
