What works

Everything I have tried except what is noted in 'What does not work' and 'Was not tested'

What does not

There is a mouse bug with both the Windows XP and Windows 2000 compatibility modes. However, there is a workaround with the Windows 2000 mouse bug.

Under Windows XP compatibility the game suffers from bug #6971 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6971). This means that while in the first person view, the mouse doesn't warp at the edges of the screen. This means that you cannot look / shoot in all directions under WINXP compatibility. However, the mouse works perfectly in all menus and maps.

Under Windows 2000 compatibility, the mouse works perfectly in the first person view. However, it stays clipped to the center of the screen in the menus and maps.

Workaround

This Workaround only works in XFCE and Gnome to the best of my knowledge.

First of all, make sure you are launching the game in the Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Go into winecfg, and under the 'Applications' tab, set the 'Default Version' to 'Windows 2000'.

Before launching the game, open a terminal window on your desktop.

When  the mouse sticks on the desktop and maps, quickly hit ALT+TAB to bring up the application switcher, and this will free the mouse until you on a button or element.

This is a bit annoying to have to do, but eventually it becomes second nature. I now find I do it inadvertantly while moving my mouse in everyday use.

What was not tested

I did not test Joystick support, as I don't have a joystick.

Additional Comments

So close to a Platinum rating - just one bug between us and perfection... http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6971 Make sure that 'Allow Pixel Shader (if supported by hardware)' is selected in the 'Graphics' tab of winecfg. This will give a major performance boost in-game. If you have a sound card without hardware mixing (ie, any integrated card, or newer cards such as the Audigy and X-Fi), you *may* have a problem where not all sounds play in-game. For instance, you may hear ricochets, but not shots, or people around you running, but not yourself. In that case, go into winecfg, and play with the DirectSound settings under the audio tab. I found that having both OSS and ALSA selected, with Hardware Acceleration at 'Standard' solved these problems; it appears that not having accelleration at 'Full' allows it to use a software mixer to ensure all sounds are played. Happy Playing!
