What works

  • The installer works perfectly and the game now works without a no-cd patch! You can play the game with the game iso mounted on /dev/cdrom
    • I don't have a disk drive anymore
  • Patching the game to 1.1 works fine.
  • Playing the game works buy only at 800x600 resolution for now
  • Software rendering or OpenGL modes work fine

What does not

  • Mouse input is troublesome
    • The game is intially confused about the system resolution. You can fix this by setting a wine desktop resolution of 800x600 or 1024x768
    • Then when the game starts go to "Audio/Video" > Toggle Fullscreen. This will set a windowed resolution to 800x600, for some reason larger resolutions aren't working
  • There is an issue with playing videos during the game
    • I should submit a bug for this. GStreamer says there isn't a plugin for the video when it tries to play them and just skips to loading the game, which is great.
    • But the installer successfully plays the exact type of movie without error
  • screen resolutions > 800x600 don't work with mouse input. For now if you tell the system it's a higher resolution, the mouse input is broken

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

Using winecfg set your Windows Version to Windows 98.

You need to install the game as normal. Patch the game to 1.1 . Then use a nocd patch to remove cdchecks as so far, the game will throw a General Protection Fault if the game trys to run without using a nocd patch. There is a bug for this. The actual cd check works as you can play multiplayer just fine. The nocd patch stops the game from trying to play the movies which crash wine.

*as of RC2 the game works in opengl mode! Feel free to play the the advanced graphics settings.

*I would recommend having wine emulate a desktopsize and not use your whole monitor. On my setup khg got very confused when it went into fullscreen mode. I've had trouble with the curtain blacking out the screen.

**note, I haven't tried very hard to get the standard 1.0 version working as the nocd patch I found didn't work for 1.0
