Maintainers: About Maintainership
What works
Everything except the movies.
What does not
The movies and cutscenes will not play.
Also, if any character closes to "bearhug distance" of the player, it causes long pauses. (twenty to thirty seconds worth at a shot.) But this is relatively minor and may just be my machine.
Workarounds
What was not tested
Multiplayer was given only a cursory test. Since theoretically the game works exactly the same way in both single and multiplayer modes, I am fairly confident that it works.

Additional Comments
The directX rendering engine *does not* work and, in fact, causes a segfault immediately upon starting the player client. To get around this, first patch the game to v1.1, and then start it with the -server option. Then you should be able to go into the server's advanced options and turn off everything related to directX. When you've gotten them all, the game will start normally. The ingame videos will not play. Even installing the Intel Indeo Codec via Winetricks does not make them functional. The no-CD hack is no longer necessary as they no longer crash the game, they simply do not work. This makes the single-player story completely impossible to follow.

Using winecfg set your Windows Version to Windows 98.
You need to install the game as normal. Patch the game to 1.1 . Then use a nocd patch to remove cdchecks as so far, the game will throw a General Protection Fault if the game trys to run without using a nocd patch. There is a bug for this. The actual cd check works as you can play multiplayer just fine. The nocd patch stops the game from trying to play the movies which crash wine.
*as of RC2 the game works in opengl mode! Feel free to play the the advanced graphics settings.
*I would recommend having wine emulate a desktopsize and not use your whole monitor. On my setup khg got very confused when it went into fullscreen mode. I've had trouble with the curtain blacking out the screen.
**note, I haven't tried very hard to get the standard 1.0 version working as the nocd patch I found didn't work for 1.0
