I've had the game playing properly with accelerated graphics. Sound/Music work fine when disk in the drive.
When the game is working, it runs perfectly. That's a big "when" though.
What does not
Anything consistently, I'm trying to find out what magic combo I used on a fresh install.
Essentially, the software mode doesn't work, opengl on my machine makes the game appear completely black (this is an unreal engine game but this game was out before unreal was so direct3d and opengl suck).
The best success I had was using a 3dfx wrapper. At the time this was easily the best engine, I'll include the links to the two I used. Individually, neither appears to work but I have gotten it to work so again, more research required.
Video's also appear not to work, with a nocd patch it goes straight to the game. Also the game forgets what resolution it was in last time, so often starts up in 800x600.
Oh and sometimes the mouse doesn't lock on the game, so you wont be able to move.
What was not tested
Playing the game properly. I'd rather figure out how to get it working from fresh install to gold rating then play it at this point.
Going silver at this point, game should be gold. But can't in good conscious use gold yet.

Using winecfg set your Windows Version to Windows 98.
You need to install the game as normal. Patch the game to 1.1 . Then use a nocd patch to remove cdchecks as so far, the game will throw a General Protection Fault if the game trys to run without using a nocd patch. There is a bug for this. The actual cd check works as you can play multiplayer just fine. The nocd patch stops the game from trying to play the movies which crash wine.
*as of RC2 the game works in opengl mode! Feel free to play the the advanced graphics settings.
*I would recommend having wine emulate a desktopsize and not use your whole monitor. On my setup khg got very confused when it went into fullscreen mode. I've had trouble with the curtain blacking out the screen.
**note, I haven't tried very hard to get the standard 1.0 version working as the nocd patch I found didn't work for 1.0
