What works

Basic game play, shadows off

What does not

Textures do not properly appear, some flames and shadows (when turned on) only show as white-gray blobs or blocks.

Race game and menu text does not display correctly, only as white shadows and in some cases is impossible to read. I think these 2 display issues are related to texture mapping.

this game as I recall also should have a 256 color mode aside from the 16 bit mode. Might be interesting to see if the 256 color modes were available if it may resolve the texture mapping issues, as I recall something very much like this happening in windows years ago, and the fix was color depth on some video cards.

Joystick calibration

Button programming

intemittent distorted audio was encountered on 2 different sound cards. Once this occurs the linux system had to be restarted too get sound back to normal

selecting 256 color mode , which I only wanted for diagnostic purposes anyway

Additional Comments

I tested multiple versions of wine with this including 1.1.22 1.1.9 which were reported here to work perfectly, but I always foumd the same issues Maybe someone knows something about texture mapping in DirectX? If so maybe color depth affects the texture mapping, and which DX files or reg entries might be the right ones to tweak?
