Selected Test Results

What works

CD-ROM 5.0 install to a FAT32 partition:
$ wine "e:\english\setup.exe"

Accept all defaults (registration key required). The wizard suggested a compact installation as this is a laptop.

Double-click the Desktop "CA 50" icon to run once before upgrade (per 5.1 instructions).
"Elite" database works in list, tree, game
modes

CD-ROM 5.1 upgrade
$ wine "e:\ca51upd\english\update51.exe"

"Elite" database needed to be added back to the Database panel, but otherwise worked as before.

  • created new test database
  • added a game
  • added players to the library
  • saved the game
  • generated a tree for the test database
  • added different annotations to the moves
  • ran Chess Tiger 12.0 engine in standard mode
  • saved changes to the game, CA deleted the tree as expected
  • regenerated the tree
  • closed and re-opened database to check settings are remembered

What does not

  • Board marker annotation draws slightly funny on screen.
  • Game list is scrolled down when the game is loaded.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Chess Analysis Project (CAP)
  • Openings Book
  • Direct Tree
  • import (conversion) of ChessBase and PGN
  • Printing
  • etc.
  • etc.

Additional Comments

The only change in winecfg was to re-point c: to /win32/ (a FAT32 partition). Then $ cd /home/{user}/.wine/drive_c $ cp -r -t /win32 -- "Program Files" $ cp -r -t /win32 -- windows $ mkdir /win32/windows/profiles/{user}/Desktop $ mkdir "/win32/windows/profiles/{user}/My Documents" (& My Music, etc.) Other than that, it's pure wine. (Works way better than this submission form.)
