Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Version distributed via Steam. As far as I am aware, it is the same as the CD retail version with latest official patch (V1.2) and no copy protection (aside from the Steam-provided protection). The game certainly contains the same bugs as the CD retail version patched to V1.2.

What works

Game launch we can play without problems.

I have tested with 9.9 unofficial patch (VTMB Unofficial Patch)

What does not

At first launch, I saw only the presentation logos of publishers, then a black screen with music.

I solved the problem activating a virtual desktop emulated with winecfg.

Workarounds

To escape the  "black screen ", I have activated the virual desktop emulation (with winecfg).

What was not tested

I have played the 2 first chapters (St Monica and down town)

Don't have problems.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

HowTo / Notes

Fix launching the patched game

While the unofficial patch 9.4 works perfectly well on Linux, the launcher that is created by the setup is broken.

Find the "VTM Bloodlines Unofficial Patch.desktop" file on your desktop, open it up with a text file and change the line:

-game\ Unofficial_Patch

to

-game Unofficial_Patch

You can also apply the latter one in the Steam startup options to track your playing time with the unofficial patch.

Make the game look better

To force antialiasing in the game, run this in a terminal:

__GL_FSAA_MODE=4

export __GL_FSAA_MODE

wine /path/to/your/Vampire.exe -game Unofficial_Patch
