Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Version distributed via Steam. As far as I am aware, it is the same as the CD retail version with latest official patch (V1.2) and no copy protection (aside from the Steam-provided protection). The game certainly contains the same bugs as the CD retail version patched to V1.2.

Additional Comments

As is, the game will run OOTB installed via Steam, but it's full of bugs and glitches since Troika was in a hurry to take it out. Even installing the official patch 1.2 (already installed with Steam), the game is almost unfinishable, so no matter what you do, install the unofficial patch (I used Wesp's 7.9). Obviously, make sure to uncheck Steam's option to keep the game updated, or it will revert to 1.2. Finished the game twice already, with different chars and different approaches. Also, there are a lot of mods out there. I tried Clan Quest (with Camarilla Edition 1.4). If you don't install the alternate NPC models, the game runs as smoothly as in window$, but I had several crashes while playing with the alternate NPC models (see as I reafirm this: NPC). Using the PC models (or the gun models, for the matter), caused me no harm. Sorry for any misspelling, but english isn't my first tongue. Enjoy the game. :)

HowTo / Notes

Fix launching the patched game

While the unofficial patch 9.4 works perfectly well on Linux, the launcher that is created by the setup is broken.

Find the "VTM Bloodlines Unofficial Patch.desktop" file on your desktop, open it up with a text file and change the line:

-game\ Unofficial_Patch

to

-game Unofficial_Patch

You can also apply the latter one in the Steam startup options to track your playing time with the unofficial patch.

Make the game look better

To force antialiasing in the game, run this in a terminal:

__GL_FSAA_MODE=4

export __GL_FSAA_MODE

wine /path/to/your/Vampire.exe -game Unofficial_Patch
