What works

  • Installer (if installed in a clean WINEPREFIX).
  • Application loads (with native quartz).

What does not

  • Installer (if workarounds are added before install as the HOWTO suggests), though it doesn't exit.
  • Crashes without quartz as expected.
  • Crashes with quartz (corrupted double-linked list: 0x7c9e9150).

Additional Comments

qcap makes no difference. Tested with 2.1 Staging. Wine 1.8 does the same thing.

HowTo / Notes

Upgrading Wine

Upgrading Wine deletes necessary registry entries. This can be avoided by running wineboot after the upgrade, and before running SlingPlayer.

You can also disable this by running

echo disabled > ~/.wine/.update-timestamp

Ubuntu PPA causes crash

Bug #1260901 describes a bug in the Ubuntu PPA's version of Wine which causes the SlingPlayer to crash in user32. It is apparently caused by patches added by the PPA team.

Do not report this as a Wine bug.

Tested in Ubuntu 16.04 under Wine 3.0-rc3:

  1. Install winetricks.
  2. Run WINEARCH=win32 winetricks -q quartz
  3. Install SlingPlayer as normal.
  4. Run echo disabled > ~/.wine/.update-timestamp
  5. Run SlingPlayer.

You should now have a working SlingPlayer!

Assertion failure on old Nvidia cards

If you experience an assertion failure while the SlingPlayer is loading, issue the following command and try again:

winetricks orm=backbuffer
