What works

It appears to install okay, provided you pull off a few tricks (to install dependencies)

What does not

Printing checks does not appear to work. There's no way to select the check style when setting up an account. All these values are empty, and it requires you to select a check style before you can continue.

There are a fair amount of OLE errors, most can be ignored (with some annoyance). I think the bulk of these are related to MDAC. The program also refuses to quit. You usually have to killall VCheck.exe (but this may cause data loss)

Under the hood, it appears to have a win32 port of ghostscript 7.05. I think this is what VersaCheck is using for typesetting of checks. As with more important apps, I prefer to use a dedicated WINEPREFIX directory, and create a shell script in ~/bin/ to take care of these affairs. Eg: WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/usr/versacheck-wine wine "C:/Program Files/G7PS/VersaCheck Payroll/VCheck.exe" $*

1. Install MSXML 4.0 SP2
1. Download KB936181 from Microsoft.
2. Extract msxml.msi
1. cabextract msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe
3. Install the msi
1. msiexec /i msxml.msi
   
2. Configure wine to run as Windows 2000
   
1. Run winecfg
2. Click the Windows Version drop down,
3. Select Windows 2000
   
4. Click OK
   
3. Install MDAC 2.6
1. Download MDAC_Typ.exe (2.61.7326.6) from Microsoft.
   
2. wine MDAC_typ.exe
4. Run the installer for VersaCheck 2007 Payroll (wine Setup.exe)
