Configuration, starting game, playing games (tested Final Fastasy VII), appeared to load and run without any problems.
What does not
Gamepad (using logitech precision, buttons work, but down and right on d-pad do not work).
epsxe gamepad selector (using the epsxe configuration menu (from the toolbar) switch controller 1 from pad 1 to multitap, then try to select pad 1 again; it is not possible to switch back).
What was not tested
Switching disks, playing other games, using non-stock sound or cd plugins. Playing without a pad.
Needed to download zlib1.dll into the epsxe folder for the program to run. By downgrading from Wine 1.1.25 to 1.0.1 (the version in the ubuntu packaging system), and removing epsxe's registry entries, the pad problems went away.
