Providing a code and validating as "Genuine Microsoft Software". Only works with a legitimate Windows licence.
What does not
Hacks designed to bypass it fail under Wine, however registry entry changes and legitimate Microsoft DLLs allow it to work.

Windows 2000 licence, Windows Server 2003 licence, Windows Vista licence, Windows Server 2008 licence.
This was only tested on a Windows XP OEM (both Home and Professional) Licence.
