What works

  • Scripting Language
  • Standard Windows - Not including Listbox's
  • General Chatting
  • DCC Chat
  • DCC Send (Files)
  • CTCP
  • IRC
  • Options dialog (see not in NOT WORKING) about issues saving options.
  • Some Windows DLL's, such as nHTMLn

What does not

  • CTRL+K Color Selector (Initializes then closes)
  • Script Editor does not show line numbers correctly, and first few charachters may be hidden behind line numbers (mIRC 6.35 includes an option to disable this, as well as a WineTricks fix)
  • Nick list does not redraw when maximised (see bug 5935)
  • Treeview does not paint properly (possibly related to bug above)
  • Pasting into editbox, and script editor completely replaces ALL text rather than inserting (major issue with Script Editor)
  • Options unable to save, as well as saving to files (I would presume this is because of the file permissions)
  • Some icons are now not transparent, I'm not sure whether this is due to the upgrade to 1.1.12 or WineTricks additions.
  • Enter in the script editor is modified as two lines (Possibly due to the way linux uses Carriage Return/Line feed combinations)

Additional Comments

The application works quiet well, allthough there are several concerning issues, such as the paste bug and the nicklist and treeview items not being drawn correctly. Whilst this would generally give a bronze rating, I have placed silver due to the easy ability to use it for IRC. mIRC 6.35 has recently added the option for disabling the line numbers in the script editor, a bug that was caused by Wine. The amount of users that requested it, somewhat indicates the amount of mIRC/Wine users, users that do not frequent WINEHQ it seems. I really think it would be great if some of the long standing bugs would be addresses soon.

HowTo / Notes

How to fix the redraw issue (bug #5935) for lists within mIRC.

There is a bug (#5935) in WINE, that causes mIRC not to redraw different list types correctly, when the list is contained in a mIRC MDI child, that is maximised.

The solution at this time, is to load the following mIRC script: http://code.google.com/p/winefix/source/browse/trunk/winefix.mrc

This script should not interfere with any other functions of mIRC.

Winetricks additions - riched20 and wsh56
The script editor is known to crash unless riched20 is added, it may be added via Winetricks. Some scripts may require Windows Scripting Host (wsh56), It can also be added via Winetricks.

Pasting bug
by Tim Van den Eynde on Saturday June 26th 2010, 17:26
The pasting bug (removing all content there already was) seems to have been fixed. Running Wine 1.2-rc4.
