What works

Installer seems to work. I can launch Active-HDL 7.3 from the KDE toolbar (where WINE installs applications by default.) The main program-window comes up.

The Aldec 'Tools' are sub-applications that launch from inside the Active-HDL program window. I tried Code2Graphics, and that launches successfully -- I 've no idea if it works, though.

What does not

After I created a new project (Verilog), created a dummy Systemverilog file (test1.sv), added it to projet, compiled it, I went to the menu "Simulation -> Initialize Simulation." Under real Windows, Aldec asks the user to select a module (from the project library) for simulation.

But in Wine , Aldec reports "The design working library is empty. You must compile one or more design files." In other words, the HDL-compiler (alog, acom) never actually saves the compiled-file to the project's library. I've repeatedly clicked 'YES', in a failed attempt to manually compile the RTL-files. The compiler prints a report-file in the Aldec console (so it looks like the RTL-file parses successfully, but in actuality, nothing is written to the project library.) So no simulation can be run.

What was not tested

VHDL compiler (acom)-- I assume it has the same problem.

Additional Comments

Active-HDL installs and runs. The 'Design->compile all' appears to succeed (console msesage shows success), but nothing is written to the design-library. Since nothing is written to the design-library, the design cannot be simulated, and hence, the core functionality of the Aldec simulator is unusable. THis could be a setting/switch somewhere in Wine, or inside the Aldec application -- can't tell. [tested with Centos 4.6 x86_64, no patches.]
