What works

When loading up the interface screen comes up OK and then a ribbon of map appears across the top of the screen but the rest is black.

Depending on the scale (zoom) this may be repeated down the black part of the screen.

There is an inset map showing the whole map area. It is possible to click on this and move the location of the zoomed in map to another place.

Not much more was checked out due to the notes below

What does not

It was possible to get a whole screen of map but it often depended on the scale (zoom) of the map.

One of three things would happen;
1 The map would render completely but the official map colours would distort
2 The map would render but there were big squares of colour overlays like a mosaic across the map
3 The map would not appear on the screen leaving most of it or all of it black

I tried altering my screen resolution down to 800x600 in case it was a display problem but that did not make any difference to the performance. It was also much much slower to produce any kind of map onto the screen when it did work.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Becasue rendering was so slow I did not try the course plotting/waymarking tools, 3D view, Fly through topography mode nor the GPS system.

Additional Comments

It was nice to try Wine with this application as there are no Linux Equivalents, though I think it can run under Mac OS(?). The cost of these two discs was £50 so it would be nice financially to recoup the outlay. I will be trying other Win applications for the same reason - lots of dosh spent on software that can be recouped. I think th elatest version of this software is v4
