What works

Almost everything is fine.

What does not

If you add a RTL language or install related language pack, you will not be able to type (the characters will be mess up) [even with installing riched20, usp10, msxml6, msxml3]

Follow Instructions:


Change the OS locale settings to a RTL language [If you want type in Word with two language]

Open Microsoft Office Language Setings and add Persian/Urdu/Hebrew/. Then go to Word options & change Numeral to Context. Also apply your desired changes in Normal Style (like RTL Direction). I recommend create two Template for LTR and RTL separately. Finally remove the added language!

Additional Comments

So far, best version for RTL Languages is Office 2007 (with riched20).

HOWTO

Follow the instructions in the entry for Microsoft Office (installer only) for installing. ­

  • Leave the Windows version set to the default of Windows XP. 
  • If using 64 bit Wine, you must create a pure 32 bit wineprefix with WINEARCH=win32.
  • Set riched20 to native (needed for correct display of some dialogs) after installing. There is no need to copy the dll, as Office 2007 installs its own versions, but the overrides must be set in winecfg in order for Wine to use them.  These overrides should not be set globally unless Office is installed in a separate wineprefix.
  • The default bullet characters are from Wingdings. If you want them to look the same as on Windows, install that font.


Window Resizing Issues

Workarounds for bugs 23805 and 30587:

Solution 1: Run in an emulated virtual desktop. This is probably the easiest solution for most users.

Solution 2: Uncheck "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg. The downside is that Word will no longer show up in the taskbar.

Solution 3: (KDE users only) In System Settings, Window Behavior, do the following:

  1. Select Window Rules
  2. Click "New..." to create a new Window Rules
  3. Enter the description
  4. Window Class: Regular Expression: value *\b(winword.exe|excel.exe|powerpnt.exe)\b.*
  5. Check "Match whole window class"
  6. Check on tab "Size & Position"
  7. Check "Full screen": value Force, No
  8. Check "Ignore Requested Geometry": value Force, Yes
  9. Click Okay
Graphics Driver Bugs
The following are not Wine bugs, but are graphics driver bugs exposed by Wine and known to affect Office 2007:

X will crash when scrolling a document in Word 2007 when using a driver in this series.  Upgrade to 195.xx.xx or later.
