o Basic game engine
o Loading saves made with Windows version
o Running game out of a native XP install from a mounted NTFS partition
o XTM add-on from http://www.thexuniverse.com/
o Many, many add-on scripts and community game extensions
What does not
o Sound is mostly nonfunctional, although a few sound effects do work.
o Game crashes when using trade screen from stations.
o Game videos
o Joystick throttle control on Logitech Freedom 2.4 cordless joystick
o With many add-ons installed (XTM, etc) game performance is significantly slower than running native on XP.
o There are issues with the keyboard after switching to another Linux app and back to the game.
What was not tested
o Extended game play
o Intensive gameplay in battles
It isn't quite usable for me, but it is impressively close. The showstoppers: (o) Game crash when using trade screens (o) If I switch to another Linux app and back again, most of the game keyboard commands stop working. Oddly, some still do work though, so it doesn't act like the game has no focus at all. (o) Missing sounds under either ALSA or OSS modes. (o) I'm running a 2.5 GHz Athlon X2. This is a very CPU intensive game if you install many add-ons like XTM. It works OK for me under XP, but performance suffers a major loss under wine. I'm very impressed that it runs at all however.
