Additional Comments
Make sure that your Winver is set to XP in winecfg and that your Wine is built with OpenAL support. More info below. - Installation from my DVD version (Czech "Kolekce klasiky" including K&L1 and 2) works fine. After game itself is installed, setup runs GFWL setup, cancel that. Then it offers to install DirectX and Acrobat Reader, uncheck both. - Install directx_Jun2010_redist.exe with Wine, not with winetricks. Get it from MS: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109 - Use winetricks to install GFWL (winetricks gfw). After winetricks finishes the installation, it continues to download w2ksp4 for some reason, just kill it with Ctrl-C, it's not needed. Note: If your Winver is set to Win7, the setup cannot begin, as the setup window is almost ivnisible, with exception of small vertical stripe. If so, set winver to XP. Note2: gfwlivesetupmin.exe winetricks downloads can be used later, it's not strictly required to install it through winetricks, just run it with Wine directly if you need to do so later. I tested that in clean prefix and it works just fine as well. Done. After running the game, GFWL screen appears, just press ESC to get rid of it. Once in menu, go to Audio options and select OpenAL instead of DirectSound, as the latter has serious sound dropouts. This specific audio option is not available through in-game menu if you press ESC during game. It's only available in main menu. Note on DVD version. It seems my mentioned DVD installation doesn't have any protection on the Launcher.exe. Game runs normally with it and DVD doesn't need to be present. In case your DVD version doesn't work, use the no-DVD patch. I tested both and both work the same way here. Tested on 32bit Wine 1.8.4. built from source, clean prefix. i3-4130T, GTX750Ti (367.44), 16GB RAM, Gnome 3. Finally works, after those many years. ;) Underdog, but still great fun and atmosphere.
