What works

Everything, played through the whole game from start to finish. I encountered no gameplay bugs or visual glitches, everything worked fine, even alt-tabbing. I played the game in a full-screen 1600x900 resolution.

The game supports Widescreen, you need to set some values manually in a config file. Consult the pc gaming wiki page of this game.

What does not

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • I did not complete it 100% so I missed the ending scene and credits, but those should play fine.
  • Did not test the openGL renderer
  • Did not test the software renderer

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

  • I installed the game from an ISO image of the original CD
  • I applied a "no cd" patch I found on the internet to circumvent the DRM
  • The game natively supports openGL/software/D3D8, can be set in the "hppoa.ini" config file
  • I used the wrapper d3d8to9 to make the game render to Direct3D9 and take advantage of the Gallium9 Mesa driver. This made the game perform better for my graphics card (Intel HD 4400)

Regarding the PLATINUM Rating

Since the game uses a "SafeDisc V3" DRM, I had to use a "no-cd" patch as a workaround to play this. BUT Windows cannot work without a workaround either. Unless you are on Windows XP, you can't play the game without using a "no-cd" patch. From Windows Vista and later, the SafeDisc DRM is unsupported. So you are getting the exact same Windows experience. This is as "out of the box" as it will ever get.

NOTES
(1) The game is considered Abandonware
