What works

Installation works, using the GOG package installer.

What does not

The game will crash if you don't install DirectX 9.

This can be fixed using winetricks to override the necessary dll's.

Also hen the game starts from the first time, it is very usual to start with a cropped screen, requiring to use the "Virtual Desktop" option on winecfg to fix the problem.

Workarounds

Requires winetricks to install DirectX 9.

To fix the cropped screen, or wrong screen resolution problem at
game's start up, it is necessary to create the correct configuration on
game's menu, using the following steps:

1. Start the game with the "Virtual Desktop" from winecfg.

2. The game will run correctly inside the boxed window.

3. On Game's Menu, select "Options", and "Graphics".

4. Click on screen resolution values, until it matches your default desktop resolution.

5. Once done, click "Apply", and then "Quit".

6. Deselect the "Virtual Desktop" option on Winecfg.

Now the game will run with the correct screen resolution, each time it runs.

What was not tested

Not so much.

Additional Comments

If you install the Gog Galaxy Wine snap package from https://snapcraft.io/gog-galax..., it will create an optimized Wineprefix with DirectX overrides, that benefit the stability of this game.

Either way, you still need to use the "Virtual Desktop" workaround to configure the correct screen resolution:

$ WINEPREFIX=~/snap/gog-galaxy-wine/common/.wine/ winecfg

Start the game within the terminal shell, and select the correct screen resolution setting.

Once done, restart winecfg to deselect the "Virtual Desktop".

Now, just click "Play" on GoG Galaxy application to start the game.
