I didn't try the installer application. The game can be also installed using a zip-file. That is also recommended by the official website of the game.

The game installer doesn't work on Wine. You must use the zip package that is available on the homepage of the game.
The sound problems seems to be fixed, but if you have any problems read the old description below.
There is also problems with the sounds. I think it's something with the SDL_mixer.dll. You must disable all sounds from winecfg, so you can run the game without sounds..
You can also try to get the sounds working by just restarting the program until the sounds work. So the sounds will work randomly after about 10 or 20 tries..
Official native Linux and OSX builds are available as of UnReal World 3.14 and later versions. The download links for these are right next to the Windows build on the official download page.
