The original campaign installs and runs with an experience comparable to windows.
The expansion packs, from the stand-alone version, did not install properly when WINE was set to create a virtual desktop. They would hang after agreeing to the license agreement. Disabling virtual desktop in the wine configuration fixed this, and I was able to complete the installation.
When clicked "play" in the launcher window after installing the expansion packs, it was unresponsive. I set WINE to use a virtual desktop again and downloaded the patches from http://nwn.bioware.com/support/
Sound was distorted and there was a delay between moving the mouse to the edge of the screen and having the camera angle begin to change. Movies were jerky but played.
Gameplay was not significantly impared by any of the above, and technically, it all "worked" to one degree or another.
What does not
The built-in update feature does not appear to work under WINE. However, there are update files available from http://nwn.bioware.com/support/.
What was not tested
I did not play the game through to the end before writing this.
There are Linux binaries available from the company's website, but they do not appear to be available in a 64 bit version. Those of us using a 64 bit kernel must still rely on Wine. Test machine is a Dell Inspiron 531

Multiple users reported that Neverwinter Nights might present problems when running it on a machine with an ATI card.
In order to avoid that, rename the main program file nwmain.exe to something else, like nwmain2.exe. The driver seems to try some optimizations otherwise, which are actually backfiring and causing issues with the game.
IGN doesn't host the patches anymore either They can now be found here: http://neverwintervault.org/patches
