Impulse automatically updates itself to the latest version whenever it is run if connected to Internet.
Note that there is two different installers, difference to be tested. The standard one, also labeled "Impulse Client - Vista/Windows 7" :

Installation via "Sins of a Solar Empire" setup. Running the version that was included on the Sins disk.

Either the update functionality doesn't work in Wine, or the most recent version of Impulse.

Download winetricks by running the following code in terminal :-
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
Now we need to install some winetricks packages to get Impulse running properly. Run the code below in a Terminal :-
sh winetricks dotnet20 gdiplus
Note that the impulse installer will appear to crash, but just dismiss the error and the installation will continue as normal.
