What works

Everything works flawlessly except the Text tool and the Help Topics. Both of those have workarounds and retain functionality though. To get the Text tool to work properly, paste some external text into the box and then select it all and type over it. If you open the Text tool and start typing, it will crash the program. To get the Help Topics to work properly, you need to tab around and hit enter when you find the proper directory. After that, it should work properly.

What does not

The Text tool crashes the program if you try to type in it before pasting text inside. Clicking Help topics locks out mouse input until a directory is chosen or the process is cancelled by tabbing around and hitting enter in the proper spot. You can still see the window boxes, so there's no real problem here.

Additional Comments

I use this for all my shape drawing and effects. I practically draw all my bitmaps for Flash games with this. The GIMP is a little useless on account of a lack of a shape tool. And no, script fu doesn't cut it, especially compared to what PSP7 can do.

Wacom tablets

2013-05-03 Admin note: the information below was posted in a user comment in 2006, and may not be applicable to current systems. It is being left here for the benefit of anyone who might wish to test and/or update it.

Ok - the problem isn't with PSP or wine, the problem is with the xorg.conf file. There's a configuration in there for Wacom drawing tablets, which is what's causing the "input device not found" error. (the "err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)" message can be ignored.)

To fix in ubuntu:

in a terminal, type

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

(don't just click on the text editor and open from the GUI, as you'll only have read-only rights to the file.)

Once inside the file, put a '#' in front of the following:

InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "cursor" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "eraser" "SendCoreEvents"

Then do the same thing with the following entries:

--------------------->8----------------

Section "InputDevice"

# /dev/input/event
# for USB
Identifier "stylus"
Driver "wacom"
Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to
Option "Type" "stylus"
Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"

# /dev/input/event
# for USB
Identifier "eraser"
Driver "wacom"
Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to
Option "Type" "eraser"
Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"

# /dev/input/event
# for USB
Identifier "cursor"
Driver "wacom"
Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to
Option "Type" "cursor"
Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY
EndSection
